Rhodine Scrub Nature Preserve is a 448 acre preserve in the center of Hillsborough County. This preserve adjoins Stephen J. Wortham park creating a unique experience to see the differences between county parks and county preserves. The dominant habitat on Rhodine Preserve is Florida Scrub. Often called the Florida desert many plants and animals are found in scrub and nowhere else. There are 2 separate trails that total 2 miles that wind through scrub and around an open water marsh. Be on the lookout for many different bird species including blue-gray gnatcatchers, mockingbirds, blue jays, and catbirds. There are plenty of mammals and reptiles as well including raccoons, bobcats, opossums, black racers, and our keystone species the gopher tortoise.
