Thornby Park, an all-inclusive "inspiration playground," first opened to the public in 2001. The park is co-owned by the city of Deltona and Volusia County, thanks to an ECHO grant that helped pay for its creation. The location is situated on roughly 40 acres of forested land with 1,000 feet of St. Johns River beachfront. The park features a big playground and pavilion, as well as being a trailhead for the East Central Regional Rail Trail, which will span 52 miles through Volusia and Brevard counties.
